The Natural Way
Guided by this principle the cosmetician Charlotte Meentzen founded the »Institute for Natural Cosmetics« in Dresden in 1930. The same year, together with her sister Gertrude Seltmann-Meentzen, she started a company under the name »Charlotte Meentzen, Heilkräuter Kosmetik« (Charlotte Meentzen, Medicinal Herbal Cosmetics). They determined that the company should produce and sell care products made from vegetable active ingredients.
The Meentzen sisters had been well schooled in the beneficial effects of herbs and plants from an early age by their mother, a woman with a profound understanding of the power of natural plants and herbs.
This knowledge and experience helped Charlotte Meentzen to become one of the first cosmeticians in Germany to use vegetable active ingredients for cosmetic purposes and for personal skincare. This revolutionized the entire concept of beauty care, as it was known then.
Charlotte Meentzen was one of the pioneers of natural cosmetics.
Today, modern scientific research can, for the most part, confirm the many benefits of medicinal plants in skincare products. Firming skin tissue, while moisturising, promoting blood circulation and cell growth, and reducing the risk of inflammation - these are just a few of the benefits of modern phyto (plant) cosmetics.
